RYA UK Junior Squad - Laser 4.7.
The RYA originally booked training for the Summer 2018 squad (sailors to be selected after the ET Champs indicator in May) 2-3 June WPNSA and 30 June - 1 July Plas Heli.
The 2nd camp was rescheduled to assist the Class, to 9-10 July. This has since caused concern for parents and their children’s GCSEs. The RYA have listened to parents and have taken the step to re-arrange the two weekend camps to now be one 4 day residential camp at WPNSA 29 May – 1st June 2018.
If you do apply for to the squad and are selected, the RYA will appreciate it if you can accept your squad place online no later than the specified deadline; stipulated on the Sailor Declaration Form, as well as returning the form back to the RYA. The RYA will also require one male and one female house parent for the camp. Please stipulate this on the online acceptance if offered a place.

WPNSA QUALIFIER And 4.7 LADDER EVENT CANCELLED
Following a review of the weather forecasts this morning and from a telephone conversation with WPNSA & the RYA, we have agreed that, on balance and given the long travelling distances of some of our competitors, it would be prudent to cancel the Qualifier at WPNSA.

It leaves me only to thank all those who will have put in so much effort in order to hold the event and hope that they don’t feel that their time has been wasted. UKLA have experienced great events WPNSA & we will be visiting again in October

British successes in Miami (Gold and Bronze)
Alison Young went into the medal race at the top of the Laser Radial rankings on the back of four wins in eight fleet races as the breeze built.

A second place in the medal race handed the Rio 2016 athlete, who recently teamed up with coach and Olympian Penny Clark, the gold medal.

Nick Thompson went into the medal race with a battle on his hands to keep his second place position.

On the first leg Thompson was handed a penalty for infringing New Zealander Thomas Saunders, sending him to the back of the fleet. He clawed back to third place but German rival Philipp Buhl's second denied Thompson the silver and forced him to settle instead for bronze.
