Laser 4.7 Sailors - Just a thought....
Feedback from the weekend at the Rutland SC Qualifier suggests that some of the sailors may wish to consider the following points that may help safety boats assisting capsized boats.
1. Having a 6mm diameter polypropylene bow line, approx 2.5m long, attached to the bow eye.
2, Ensuring that the dagger-board elastic is sufficient to hold the foil in the dagger-board case when the boat is capsized.
3. Ensure that the friction pad is also adjusted regularly to help prevent the dagger-board moving when the boat is capsized.

Laser Standard and Radial World and European Qualification Documents - Revised.
IMPORTANT - The UKLA World and European Championship Qualification documents for Standard and Radial classes have been reviewed and re-issued. This does not effect the Laser 4.7 or Masters.

The UKLA are deeply sadden to learn of the Death of Martin Boatman
A coach who touched so many Laser sailors lives, the out pouring of emotion has been tremendous, a huge loss not only to the sport of sailing. A truly special man.

EIGHT BELLS - Jeff Martin
All the Laser family is shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Jeff Martin on 11 January 2019 while on a ski holiday with family and friends.

Jeff's dedication to the sport of sailing was unparalleled, having served as the Executive Secretary of the International Laser Class Association for 40 years. Jeff was a cornerstone of Laser events, having worked at every Laser Open World Championship except the first one in 1974 where he was a competitor.

The loss of Jeff Martin will be keenly felt throughout the sailing world and our deepest condolences go out to Jeff's family and friends.
I meet myself Jeff Martin for the first time at the 1980 Laser Worlds in Kingston.
He was the key man of the Laser developpement and he is one of the father of the Laser. .
I had the chance to work t with him for the Laser class in many championships and for the developpement of the Laser class.
We all learned a lot from him and he will grandely missed in the Laser family.
Jeff was still on the deck at the last Sailing conference in order to support the Laser class to be at the 2024 Olympics

Condoleances to his wife, son.and family

Au revoir mon ami !

EurILCA Chairman

The 2019 British Laser 4.7 Qualifier season is approaching.....
The Laser 4.7 is a phenomenal success story of junior and youth one design dinghy sailing. In recent years it has consistently been the largest Junior/Youth fleet at a World Championships. The Class’s first World Championships were held in 2002 in Holland, in 2018 there were 430 sailors competing in the Worlds in Poland and over 300 sailors competing in the Europeans in Greece. The universality of the Laser is no doubt a major part of the Class’s success globally and just as with the Optimist Class, the Laser 4.7 has a huge following of sailors, parents, coaches and merchants invested in it’s success.

And the winner of the Wildwind holiday is Stuart Belfield, congratulations Stuart.
Don't forget the Wildwind training weeks in Vass 5, 12 and 19 May – and regatta 10 & 11 May.

Vote Laser Grand Masters World Champion Mark Lyttle Irish World Sailor of the year!
